dual licensing

Offering the same code under both an open-source license and a commercial license. A core business model for many COSS companies. Under dual licensing, users can choose which license terms to accept: for example, a copyleft license if they are comfortable with its obligations, or a paid commercial license if they want to avoid those obligations. The COSS company relies on holding the copyright (or having CLAs) so it can legally offer the same code under multiple, incompatible terms.
