defensive termination clauses

Many modern open source licenses (e.g., Apache 2.0, GPLv3) include “defensive termination” patent clauses that automatically revoke the patent license granted to a user if that user sues contributors or other users for patent infringement over the licensed software. This acts as a deterrent: if you use the software, you agree not to launch patent attacks on the project, or you lose your rights under the license.
